Arzea

Arzea is a critical character in the Alma’s Prophecy story. Having extended her lifespan greatly, she appears in Old World history and lives in the modern day as Sunshore’s Mayor.

Personality

Arzea has an extremely unpredictable personality. She can shift into a whole new person on a dime (ignoring the fact she can do this anyways as a Kitsune), leaving very different impressions between people. Regardless, Arzea most often acts unserious and whimsical, but calculated enough to have an internal sophistication. When alone, she lets go of her more personable traits, showing an extremely vindictive and selfish side.

Arzea has an inclination towards authority which came from her early life as a Devil Hunter. She was pivotal in assuring her clan’s survival but ostracized due to her ability to use Kaiju Control. Arzea embraced this combination of respect and fear to act as a shadow leader. If they didn’t respect her word, they would fear her threats. Arzea consistently treats people as being under her, and when she doesn’t, it’s usually an attempt to get her way.

Lore

Born during the early development of Altevo’s Kitsune population, Arzea was thrust into martial training to become a Devil Hunter once she was of age. Demons were both prey and predator to Kitsune, and the Suyara clan was small at the time.

Snooping around I see? Hmm? I’m sorry dear, but I can’t let you learn everything about me. I’m a high value individual, so anything more comes at a premium. I suppose I can leave you with this, as a little treat. I wasn’t always a forger, but circumstance put me in the right place at the right time.

Immense Strength – Being born into Devilhunter training, Arzea has a powerful physique that she still maintains. In ordinary combat, Arzea fights with a Kempo-like fighting style.

Long Lifetime of Training – With her unnaturally extended lifespan, Arzea has used that time to master a larger variety of combat styles than most people could. She is skilled in unarmed,

Kaiju Control: Star Catcher – Arzea is capable of immense spell outputs thanks to Kaiju Control. From her mastery, Arzea can summon storms and create small planetoids with ease. When in Kaiju form, Arzea becomes a beast known as the Star Catcher. Reminiscent of Light Scar’s Constellations, Star Catcher is a massive nine-tailed fox that appears to defy gravity through graceful, floaty movements. The mouth of Star Catcher can transform into a cannon, capable of condensing magic and physical matter into stars and planetoids.

Entropy Forging – Before Nefershine’s death, Arzea was given her Entropy Forging in Nefershine’s final moments. Just like Nefershine, Arzea can use her Forging powers to manipulate the forces of destruction and creation.

Design Philosophy

Arzea is a nine-tailed Kitsune based on a Fennec fox. This aspect mostly influences her large ears, tail shape, and cream colored fur. This part is pretty surface level: She originates from Altevos’ desert, so she looks like a fox that lives in arid climates.

The red markings on Arzea’s face and swirled eyebrows are meant to mimic a fox mask. Her facial wrinkles not only show her age and wisdom but also elevate this feature by keeping her skin from fitting perfectly. Having two rows of shark-like teeth, her own skin acts as a facade for something must more dangerous beneath. It’s like Arzea wears a mask that doesn’t fit perfectly to hide a more physically monstrous side.

Clothing

This is where we get to the real meat and potatoes of Arzea’s theming. We’ll start with the innermost layer of her clothing: the places where there isn’t any. Arzea’s mostly exposed hips and chest act as a display of her perverse nature. It shows she deliberately attempts to be tantalizing and sexy by showing off her body. It’s an embrace of one aspect of her eccentric kitsune nature and fits with the lighter clothing that would likely be common in Altevos’ desert nations.

Next comes her half-body skintight suit. The black coloring of this suit gives Arzea a light and dark split on her body. Not only does Arzea understand the balance of light and dark, but she attempts to display it physically on her body. Red tulips are known to represent romance, love, and passion, while blue roses mean uniqueness, mystery, and unobtainability. All of this comes together to say Arzea is mysterious and out of reach for many, but acts in an alluring way to draw people in.

Arzea’s purple kimono gives the impression of royalty. Being in positions of power often, the color purple becomes especially fitting for her. Arzea’s sash depicts a set of fanged teeth, reflective of the teeth of demons in asian folktales. This shows that there is a level of aggression and brutality in Arzea. Particularly, her ability to transform into an immense beast through Kaiju Control. All of this to show Arzea is someone powerful and to be respected. These outfit components also connect her with the folklore origins of kitsune from asian cultures.

The sheer density of meaning within this outfit even has meaning itself: Arzea is very full of herself. She knows what she’s wearing as if trying to throw the image of herself she wants people to have in their faces. It furthers her tendency towards being in control as well by basically being a walking subliminal message.

• Many of Arzea’s traits are purposefully antithetical to Lucious.
  • Lucious is often shown being controlled, while Arzea is often the one in control.
  • Hatred holds an immense impact on both of their lives. While Lucious’ life was ruined by someone’s hatred for him, Arzea life was defined by her own hatred for the circumstances around her.
  • Lucious is aloof and stern, but still holds a compassion for people. Arzea has an attractive personality on the surface but is shown to be manipulative and hateful deep down.
• Due to the body-morphing features of Kaiju Control, Arzea’s flesh is extra dense. This makes her heavier than she appears.
