Appearance
Dwarves are a shorter and wider variety of the human species. They possess the same range of skin and hair colors as humans, while having broader features that give them larger noses and heavier brows. While possessing a fleshy epidermis like humans, they grow much greater volumes of hair than them across their body. Most dwarves will take particular pride in their facial hair, growing and styling large beards.
They become physically mature at the age of 16, and mentally mature some years later. Dwarves typically live for 100 years, with some managing to live longer.
Culture
Originating from the mountains of Emolana, Dwarves are naturally apt in surviving extreme conditions and creating sanctuary within caves and tunnels. Many Dwarven societies in Emolana were made within long tunnels that dug through the continent’s many mountains. These underground cities were far apart, so dwarves would create practical trinkets in the form of a clan heirloom to identify where they came from. These trinkets are in the form of a handheld tool relating to the professions of their family, with decorative details reflecting their home society. At some point in prehistory, part of dwarven society migrated to Altevos, developing into a second population within that continent.
Dwarves have developed a proclivity for passionate, yet stubborn behavior. Most dwarves are very “set in their ways,” for better and worse. As much as this makes it difficult to change a dwarf’s mind, it also means they develop very close bonds with their family and friends. Dwarves are very particular about who they consider a companion, so making friends with one means knowing someone you can always rely on.
Most dwarves take on practical professions in the form of craftsmanship of practical implements. Early dwarven society would use tools and services as currency, until abundances of minerals led to the development of coins for trade. In Altevos however, intermingling with its other native races would lead to more impractical, artistic practices being adopted into this proclivity.
Special Attributes
Enhanced Eyesight: Having lived in dark conditions and extreme storms, Dwarves naturally possess strong eyesight that can see in darkness and strong weather conditions. This appears physically as a greater natural range of dilation within the pupils, allowing more light to be captured without compromising light-tolerance.
Great Physical Tolerance: Dwarves have a sturdy physical composure that helps them tolerate discomfort in many forms. Whether it be pain, sickness, or temperature, dwarves can endure these hardships longer than most.
Stubborn Soul: The zeal of dwarves reaches so deep, that even their soul is changed by it. Supernatural phenomenon that might sway them emotionally has a much harder time affecting dwarves than most other races.
